How not to build a cell phone

The Nokia N-Gage is supposed to be a combination of a portable gaming device and a cell phone. At list price ($299) it costs enough to buy two or three of each. The design is likely to go down in history as a complete disaster. You have to take the batteries out to switch games. The form factor is pretty close to the original Game Boy Advance, but the speaker and microphone are on the side, so you have to hold it sideways on your head to talk with it. It’s this “feature” that inspired the Sidetalkin’ page, an exhibition of silly people holding other gaming devices up to their ears.
